Web Design Prices in Hong Kong (2026): Why Can Quotes Differ by 10x?

Why isn't there one answer to "how much does a website cost"?

Ask ten companies "how much to build a website" and you'll likely get ten different numbers — from a few thousand dollars to hundreds of thousands. It's not that anyone is ripping you off; it's that "web design" itself covers wildly different scopes of work.

Hong Kong market reference prices (by website type)

The following are market reference ranges (secondary data — worth comparing against a few real quotes before committing):

  • Template / one-page site: roughly $3,000–$50,000
  • Brand website (5–15 pages): roughly $5,000–$100,000, with some semi-custom reports showing $10,000–$25,000 (usually including domain/hosting/first-year maintenance)
  • E-commerce site: roughly $80,000–$300,000+
  • Fully custom system / API integration: $10,000–$500,000+
  • General SME informational site (10–20 pages): averages around $30,000

The range is wide mainly because of the following factors.

5 factors that directly affect the quote

1. Page count and content complexity

A one-page landing page and a 15-page brand site take very different amounts of work — beyond page count, the content structure on each page (product listings, case study displays, multi-language versions) adds cost too.

2. Degree of customization

Templates (a pre-built template with tweaks) are usually much cheaper than fully custom design. Full custom — designing and coding from scratch — naturally costs more in labor.

3. Feature complexity

A static showcase page vs. a dynamic site with a shopping cart/membership system/admin panel can differ in cost by up to 10x — we cover this in detail in another article, Dynamic vs. Static Websites.

4. Whether SEO/GEO is built in

Some companies only quote for "building the site," with SEO/GEO optimization as an extra charge; others build it in from the start (which saves you the time and money of hiring someone else for SEO later).

5. Post-delivery maintenance/renewal arrangements

Domain, hosting, and SSL are usually included in year one, then renew from year two — always ask exactly how much that renewal costs, rather than assuming the first-year quote is the total cost.

Traditional design agency vs. AI website builder — what's the difference?

Pure AI builders (Wix/Durable-type):

  • Speed: minutes
  • Price: cheap (monthly subscription)
  • SEO/GEO: basic only, Google may not fully crawl it
  • Customization: limited (templates)

Traditional design agencies:

  • Speed: weeks
  • Price: expensive ($30,000+ to start)
  • SEO/GEO: depends on the agency's quality, often an extra $3,000+
  • Customization: high, but expensive and slow

Our own positioning is a deliberate attempt to combine the best of both: a simple conversation generates a preview in minutes, human QA keeps quality in check, and SEO/GEO is built into the base plan. Starter starts at $2,800 (1–3 pages), Business starts at $6,800 (7–12 pages) — see the full plan list and what's included.

3 questions to ask before you commit

  1. Does this quote include domain, hosting, and SSL? How much is the year-two renewal?
  2. Is SEO/GEO already built in, or an extra charge?
  3. What's the cap on revision rounds after delivery? How is going over that priced?

Ask these three questions upfront, and you won't discover "hidden fees" after you've already paid the deposit.
