GEO in 2026: How to Get ChatGPT to Mention Your Business
What is GEO?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is an emerging field since 2026, aimed at getting AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview to cite or recommend your business when answering user questions.
It overlaps with traditional SEO but isn't identical — traditional SEO optimizes for ranking, GEO optimizes for being cited.
Three starting moves
1. Write content in a clear Q&A format
Add an FAQ section to every service page, written as direct, complete question-and-answer pairs. AI answer engines are especially good at extracting this structure to answer user questions, and it works even better paired with FAQPage schema markup.
2. Be specific, not vague
AI engines find it far easier to cite "from $500" than "affordable pricing." Concrete price ranges and specific service lists are more likely to be cited than vague adjectives.
⚠️ A note of caution: being specific doesn't mean inflating claims — never fabricate unverified numbers or facts just to sound "specific." Doing so directly damages customer trust.
3. Publish an llms.txt
This is an emerging standard, similar to robots.txt but aimed at LLM crawlers. Place an llms.txt at your site's root, briefly listing what your site is and which pages matter, so AI crawlers can quickly understand your business.
Bottom line
Nearly half of Hong Kong users have already switched to AI tools for search — sites that ignore GEO are already falling behind competitors who've adopted this approach. If you'd like to know how your site currently stands on GEO, feel free to chat with our consultant.
